Default Engine block question

I am going to buy a motor to build for my truck. I was wondering if I could buy any 318 or does it have to be a magnum?

Will the magnum heads bolt to a Older LA block?

I'm thinking I'd be better off buying a magnum engine so I would have less to worry about interchanging.

Not looking to buy anything with over 100k on it if I buy a complete motor.

I'm thinking flat top pistons, cam, M1 intake, big gulp throttle body, sct tuner and if I can find one a 340 crank

The Magnum is based on the LA block, but nothing is really going to bolt up due to the many changes.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

It was written by one of the engineers who developed the Magnum engine. It is an excellent reference for the beginner as well as the expert.
