Default Need Some Real And Honest Input

Okay so i have big plans for my truck (money permitting)
I am 18 years old and i currently work at a Lincoln dealer, trying to move up and become a service tech because i love automotive.
I love my truck especially the 2nd gen rams which i why i own one

Here's the deal........
01 ram , 5.9L , 126k miles, New trans at 100k.
Of course it has the dodge ram rust, not too bad but not good. both sides of bed on wheel wells are rusting, passenger side has a hole through it already. passenger side cab corner has hole starting. rockers are good (thank god). front fenders are rusted through, and both doors have some rust on the bottoms. My plan is....after this winter i would like to get the rust on the bed fixed, cab corner fixed, new front fenders and maybe doors if i can find some non rusted ones. then i want to get a cheap crappy paint job at maaco. i love my truck and i plan on having it for awhile.

What does everyone think? honest opinion

Find a junkyard that has a good selection of second gens, and score your body parts from there. New ones are NOT cheap....... Where you live, a couple good donors shouldn't be too hard to find.

Paint as much of it as you can yourself. Especially the hard to reach places, like the front of the bed........ (facing the cab.)

One guy on here painted his truck himself, with rattle cans, in his dirt driveway, and did a FAR better job than MAACO could ever consider doing.......

i was at one junkyard the other day, only seen two 2nd gens, but i got the part i needed, i checked ebay and i seen two fenders , shipped for $250, My work's body shop gives employee's good discounts on work ill have to check it out, even though its still a "Stealership" big money pit, and money would solve it all

Talk to some of the body men, a lot of them do side work, either at the shop, or at home, and will give you MUCH better deals than the dealership. Don't talk about it real loud though, as some managers don't particularly care for that practice. Getting the body guy fired would NOT be a good way to get a good deal.

I've got the same problem. The bottom of my doors and rockers are rusted through. So I'm going to get the parts from LMC and weld em in. Then either going to roll, do a in my buddies garage spray or maybe just rattle can it general lee orange.
