+1.... When they test, there is NO load on it. Just like when a starter is tested.

I also had a replacement alternator be defective....it would sorts work but then die randomly for the two days I drove it until getting another replacement..
I also had similiar issues in my kitcar and found it was a bad ground from the battery to the frame...

Hey, on my 95. dodge ram with factory radio. i lost the FM side but still have the AM side. any thoughts.

Left or right side? Does your dash have cracks? And what color is your truck.

Alternator's are a pain in the butt to test. And most ''test'' results come out that its good. Reason being there isn't a load on it when its tested. I would just swap alternators and call it a day.

Edit: crap, zman beat me to it lol.
