That was a comment by a Ford engineer referring to a subcompact model ... the Focus, I believe (but not positive).

The principle is the same ... weight is a mileage killer ... but a vehicle designed to haul loads will not far quite so badly per 100 pounds.

i don't think weight effects truck that badly unless you are hauling something massive in the bed that effects the vortex that is created. i put 300lbs in the bed of my truck for winter weight and have not seen my gas mileage go down. the last top up my gas mileage actually went up a bit.

These trucks were built in the late 90s when fuel consumption was not a big deal, thats why they are as aerodynamic as a cinder-block! Lol
