Couldn't get a pic of the connector but the wires are purple/green stripe and black.

Thanks for the pic.

Seems kinda strange to put it there tough, you would think the readings would be WAY off due to heat from the engine.

Exactly!! Thats why I couldn't get a pic of the plug. I relocated the sensor to the "normal" and had to run new wire from the existing plug up front and jury rig a connector for now. It was reading anywhere from 40 - 50 degrees higher than ambient temp when it was where I found it.
