Default 2001 RAM tire pick

I need new tires and do not like my GoodYear 265/75 r16 Wrangelers on my Sport. I know I want to get 285's or 295's but was wondering what brand to get. I kind of like the BF Goodrich all terrains and the The Yokohama Geolandar A/T Plus II's tires. What do you think? Truck is a stock height sport that stays on the road but goes in winter snow and light muddy farm fields.

I've also been looking at the BF Goodrich AT and have been told that they have a long tread life for high mileage. You said you are wanting 285 or 295's. 285's are the same height as a 33" tire. With 3.55 gears it is going to take some of the power away. I have 3.55 gears and tried a set of 33 x 12.50s and the power loss was noticeable and fuel consumption increased. With the tires and AC running full blast I got about 13mpg normally I average 14.5 mpg with no AC and stock tires. So between both tires and AC I lost 1.5 mpg which sucks. Also passing people with the 33's takes longer. Over all I wasn't pleased with the taller tires mainly due to the gearing of the truck. Just something to think about. It did look damn good though with the bigger tires. Just depends what you are into. I like performance myself and if I get tires I'm thinking about going with 32 x 11.50.

You can have performance, and bigger tires. Just need to change your gears is all.

I was worried about fuel mileage with the 265 to 285 jump. I figured it may go up w/the lower gear ratio but the wider tires will give more friction so maybe equal out. Do you think I should reset the computer after changing tires so maybe it will re-calibrate its-self?? I do not know. I am going to shop around and purchase in September.

True, but gear changing costs as much, if not more than than the tires and wheels cost. For some people on a tight budget, it just isn't feasible.

Fuel mileage will go down with a taller tire because it takes more power to get the truck going and takes longer to get to crusing speed. You are turning more weight per tire and your gear ratio is actually going higher (ex:now you have 3.55 and a taller tire would change that to maybe say a 3.23 or something similar, don't know for sure). You won't gain mileage with taller tires.

If you plan on reseting the computer just by unhooking the battery this will not re-calibrate your speedometer. You can buy boxes that plug into the truck and recalibrate for different tires sizes will do it and I think some places may be able to recalibrate the system, but unhooking the computer and hooking it back up won't recalibrate it.

Stop & go traffic I can see what you (1500sport) are talking about. Concerning the computer I was refering to resetting the computer so it maybe could 'relearn driving habits/conditions and calabrate accordingly.. sounds far fetched thought right??

I checked out a set of LT285/75R16 Cooper Discover ATR's this afternoon and they seem like nice tires. Maybe not as tough looking as others but good for my needs maybe.. Does anyone run these and what do you think??
