Default Mounting Tow Hooks

I have a set of tow hooks like this http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/product/chrome-tow-hook and i have a sport so i'm wondering where to mount them at? I am thinking about under the bumper where the frame meets bumper there's a flat piece of metal i think i can drill 2 holes in an mount them. Is this a bad idea or is there anywhere else to mount them? I also have to paint them because they are slightly rusty so what kind of paint should i use and what prep to it should i do?

I would mount them where ever you can get to, just make sure they are not some where that will allow a tow chain to eat your bumper.

Also use the biggest baddest bolts possible! Theres alot of stress on those bolts when your being pulled/pulling someone

be careful using those tow hooks. they're not very stong at 10,000 pounds and could result in a flying killer chain into someone's window.

consider using a factory tow hook set for about $130 new or $60-90 used.
here's how they look and mount. some of the pics are out of focus.

the factory hooks are monsters.

having said all that, if you do build a set, consider a mount like the factory mount that ties the frame to the front cross member. the front cross member by itself is weak, and the frame end is curved. a tie strap adds a lot of strength to it.

i was thinkin about puttin hooks on my truck but i wasnt sure where to mount them either. i dont have the sport but i do have the factory aluminum brush guard. i think the guard is mounted to the frame so would that be a strong enough spot the mount them?

i wish i had a better pic. currently the headlight guards and the black plastic upright covers are off. i also have that lower grey trim piece taken off by the circles. kind of like the 3/4 ton

I have those factory tow hooks and I'll be removing mine in the near future. Will go up for sale.

@sam -- might just be me, but I can't see your picture.

Let's talk when I do have them off and are still in useable condition. You just never know.
