Question Auxiliary reverse lights

96 1500 4x2 5.9 with factory tow package

used camper lid is on-- all lights working great (thanks to a "logic box"; "logicbox"), but now I need to look into some auxiliary reverse lights

any rec's on brand/model?

I do not mind these new auxiliary lights coming on at all times. Can I simply tap into the reverse light wires leading to the taillight reverse lights; mount the new auxiliary lights and be done with it?

thanks, C

Depending on what you get for your aux lights.... I would be more tempted to have the stock lights trip a relay, that powers the aux lights off the battery. (fused, of course)

Some folks have used driving/fog lights for aux backup lights, one things for sure, you can SEE what's behind you.......

ok I think I understand...

basically a stronger light is going to possibly overload the existing reverse light relay and/or wires

so maybe something simple, not too powerful and I could get away with "piggybacking" off the stock reverse lights

did I get that right?

thx HY

i tapped the backup lights and directly powered a couple of small rectangular lights mounted to the receiver hitch. this is not the right way to do it, but for the few seconds per day that they burn, its ok.

the correct way to do it is to tap the backup lights to power a relay, and run a 12 or 14 gauge wire from the battery, with a fuse, through the relay, to the lights. this prevents adding any excess load or heat to you tiny little stock wiring.

if you ever tow a boat and back down into the water to launch it, get sealed lights, or something that can handle water and not short or corrode out quickly.

one of many old threads with pics.
