It'll just be a dog off the line. Keep od off unless you're on the interstate and take it easy. Be prepared to stop as the gas station alot as well.

Haha Im already@the gas station everyday!See I have a motorcycle for warmer weather&I have a beast of a pro street g-body that Ive recently started doing body work on&now this may make me&my fiance look nuts seeing were both coverd in tattoos but were buying an older geo metro 4 door for gas mileage &to haul the kids in just cant find a pre 96 with 4 doors&a hatch there cheap&easy to work on.I know a guy who can get it to run 75 mpg! They came rated at 55 from the factory.Plus a new cRate motor for em well rebuilt is only 1000!So mpg for the truck wont be a big deal Ill only be using it for running the hwy, picking up lumber&tools etc.I got x amount of dollars I saved up Im living off of else Id run out to buy the gears today!I get a little bit of money next year&Im opening a small businesz then.I bought this truck because I live out in bfe&have a house &land I own out right&Im always fixing&building stuff around here&got tired of paying to use somebodys truck. Now that I have it I F#&*!^× LOVE THIS THING!...sorry for the rant just realized my meds kicked in lol

On 38's? Kept o/d off 100% of the time. If I floored it, I would see 45 on the speedo before shifting out of first. Towing? Luckily I only had to do it once, but it was miserable.

I had factory 3.92s on my 2nd Gen and put a body lift/level combo & 35s on it before it was a month off the showroom floor. It was ok and towed my bass boat (about 3000 lbs. loaded with gear) with no problem at all. Now it wasn't going to set any speed records but I'd say power was adequate enough if you aren't performance minded. Gas mileage sucked ***** though, about 9 mpg around town and I might could nip 12 mpg on trips. Don't know what re-gearing would have done for fuel economy.
I will say that my 3rd Gen on 35s with 4.56 gears and a ton of weight more than my 2nd Gen (around 7000 lbs.) gets just slightly lower gas mileage than the truck got bone stock with 3.92s. I get about 12.5 mpg around town and can set the cruise at 75 mph on the interstate and easily see 16 mpg...

315/75R16 and 3.92 gears for over three years average mpg is 13 city 16 hwy. No problems at all, it's no slug but it ain't stock either.

yeah but that was that 45 mph accurate? If it was a 97 or older your speedo would be way off.... 98 and newer would need a small gear change in the rear diff or pcm setting changed to correct speedo...

Your not using a mpg computer or your obdometer to get those high numbers are you?? because unless you had the pcm reprogrammed, with those gears your speedo, obdometer and mpg calculator are gonna be way off...I dont thing you have a calculator being a 96... I question your mpg though because I have the exact same truck as you only with 4.56 gears which should give better gas mileage (being the same ratio as stock with stock tires which was chosen because it was the most economical) and I dont see those mpg numbers... mine fall in line with most of the other members here..(like 13-14 mpg highway). With the wind at your back and no uphill climbing I suppose it could be achieved by my truck but certainly not the norm.

^^^ There is no mpg comp in my year truck,Its just gives temp and n-s-e-w. Mpg has been figured by hand I am 46 and know how to figure out mpg. I have owned this truck since new and know it like the back of my hand. The pcm is a Mopar performance unit. That 3.92 was stock for my truck no reprogramming is needed.
