Default In-Line Check Valve Part # and Source?

.
Our tranny problem seems to be pointing to the in-line check valve, after reading a few posts from others. Does anyone who has changed it out, happen to have the Part # and remember where to pick one up. Auto Zone couldn't seem to find it in their computer menu. They think it's a dealer-only item. I hope not, since it's Friday night.

While we're on the subject, can someone post up a pic of this valve, and maybe it's location on the vehicle. I just took a very quick look under my '98, and I didn't see one.

Come on guys...

Well, I found out on my own that the check valve lives on the end of the pressure cooler line. Picked up a new one, and now am fighting to get the line out of the truck, and the new one back in. Not fun at all. Looks like I may have to try and jack the vehicle up, and let the suspension flex down to get room to route the new line in. Why did they have to bend the thing so many tiimes, and tuck it behind the starter and exhaust??! I'm not disassembling the vehicle to replace a cooler line. No way.

Here's my check valve waiting to be installed. I replaced the entire line, cause mine was kinda rusty, and would have failed soon anyways. Besides, the stealership said they came only as a unit. At the time of this install, no one had provided a part number for just the check valve anyway.

Here's where the check valve is found on the truck. At first, I thought I'd have to get to it from below like on other vehicles, but the Ram's engine compartment makes it so easy from above.

I keep reading that the check valve costs $40, but the dealer wants $68. Can the valve be purchased seperately from the cooler line?

Yes, from what I've read you should be able to purchase just the small rubber hose with the check ball without having to buy the whole routing like you show. I need to check into this as well as I want to replace it every 50k or so as part of routine maintnance.

OK, sorry for not being on top of things... but you answered your posts 4 or 5 times... lol

anyway, your pics are not working for me, is there a direct link? I also need to add a check valve on mine since I no-longer
have the in-radiator cooler hooked up and the TC drains every night...

Has anyone found an inline check valve?

Finally you chime in, Steve. I was feeling lost. Asked at my local parts counter, and didn't get a good answer on the check valve seperate subject. Local auto parts stores didn't have a clue on where to find the valve, so I got mine from the stealership. They sold me the whole line with it. I ordered it over the phone from a out-of-town dealer, so I wasn't able to stand at the counter and try and get just the valve. My local dealer says I could have gotten the whole thing for $40. [:@] Would have if they were open Saturdays.

You can see the pics at my CarDomain site. I'll get a part number for what I bought, and hopefully someone will add another source and number if there is one.

Ok, I did a search and found this http://www.mpsracing.com/products/Earls/PA_Filters.asp for fuel, I'd imagine it'd work for tranny fluid since the tranny fluid is a heavier fluid then gas. there are nipples available to connect to both ends so you could cut the hose and put it in-line with the current hose that's on there... (I know it's a little late but it'd be good reference for the next guy). I need to get one of these for my tranny lines also so when I get it, I'll post my feedback on it... (how well it works for tranny fluid and keeping the TC full w/the motor off)... the one thing that would need to be checked is if the valve will open for the pressure that goes through those lines...

the pics did come in this time, not sure why they didnt before.... anyways... working 12~13 hour days so browsing the forums is last on the list right now...

I got rid of the check valve entirely. Cost me about $5 for hose and hose clamps.
