I would put the money into an exhaust system. Unless you are turning crazy RPMs and have already done a lot of work to the engine, in the head especially. Roller rocker arms wont really make that much of a difference.

The stock ones will work fine for what you are trying to do for a while.

RR's add about 10-15 horsepower, and a bit more torque. There's a dyno chart around here somewhere for that..... No clue what the exhaust adds.....

My bad i must have glazed over whites thread. If I drop in a bigger cam, what is the common valve spring replacement if any? How big can one go while maintaining a superchips tuning?? The only problem is that I don't know of any engine shops around so custom tuning may be difficult. Does anyone know of any places in Canada to get a cam made, particularly in the Alberta area? Thanks for the input thus far!

Before I forget, can one do a cam swap without removing the kegger? I want to save myself from buying another 100 dollar intake gasket set if I took this project on.

If you are serious about this, then go back and read it rather than provided repeat posts back here. You should be aware of what was encountered.

It will answer the question of valve springs for me...tuning also came up in the thread.

I have a superchips 3715 and just put it live this AM.

Again, if you are serious and Merc being in Canada just may assist with your last question and then some. But...be cereal!!

I'll help out with linking you.

Stock valve springs are good to .480 as this is a truck motor you are or should be looking for tq in the lower rpm band range, and this is were you need to be. So a cam with numbers in/under that range is a good choice. I am not sure if white N posted his cams specs but he is in that range. As for a shop in AB there should be lots of shops that can set you up with a cam, if not out there here in BC I use Interior cam. PM me if you would like that number.

Since a lot of you guys are suggesting exhaust over the 1.7 rr, I am going to talk to my exhaust shop and see what they can do. I figure my original o2 sensors with 230000km on them need replacing too, just stay away from Bosch right? I think I am over my head with a cam swap while going to school right now. I will give it more thought as summer approaches. Thanks!
