Specific wheel and tire question
I am looking to put on new wheels and tires. (this will be for summer driving only) I will keep my big tires on stock rims for the winter driving.
I would like to put on a larger rim 20" with a performance tire. (I am chewing up my softer trail/winter tires on daily driving)
Here are the specs on rim and tire.
20 inch rim
Offset: 15mm
Backspacing: 5.35"
Bolt Pattern: 5-139
Rec. Tire Size:275/55-20
Weight: 34.6lbs.
Tire is 31.9 inches diameter
Will this combo fit on my 98 Ram 1500 club cab? NO LIFT OR MOD-completely stock
I have read a ton of threads and still can't tell if they will fit.
Thanks

when you say space out, will this effect normal driving, towing etc? I don't want to do something that could cause undue stress on another part or worse cause breakage or an accident. Thanks
Well, that backspacing is about an inch deeper than stock. (wheels sit further into the wheel well, tires are closer in.....) also about an inch wider.... not a bad thing. I think if you just bolt them on, you are going to get a lot of rub while turning..... I know others have put the third gen wheels on their trucks though, and I haven't heard any complaints.... so, take that with a grain or two of salt.
I agree that wheel spacers are generally a bad idea, but, in your case, moving the wheels out 1/2 to 3/4's of an inch would put the load right back where it was with the stock wheels and tires. I really dislike the unit-bearing hubs on these trucks. The bearings are WAY to close together, and makes wheel choice much more complicated.

Is there any issue with the fact that I'm going to a 20 in Rim? Or does the only thing that matters is overall tire diameter? (in this case 31.9 inches) I was concerned not only with offset/backspacing but also overall room in the wheel well since I have no lift. If nothing else, a bit of a leveling kit should take care of any fenderwell rub.

Nope. Only thing that really matters is weight, and overall tire diameter.
Sidewall height DOES affect ride quality though... so keep that in mind too. Shorter the sidewalls, stiffer the ride. 32" tires shouldn't give you any clearance issues around the fender well and such..... width might present some interesting problems though..... The tire size you have there works out to about 11" wide..... may not be an issue...... though that is with the 4.5" backspacing of the factory rims....
My take on it? Go ahead and do it. Try it without spacers, and see if you get any rub, and if so, how much, and decide from there if you want to run spacers or not.
