Default 1995 Ram 1500 Light wiring issue

I'm the second owner of my 1995 Ram and I have been having an issue with the rear lights shorting out, and dimming. I have looked under the rear end and seen that the wiring harness is torn to pieces, it looks like the tow light plug was installed with a pocket knife. What is the easiest way to fix this issue? Also what is the cheapest?

Thanks.

By going to the FAQ/DIY section and downloading one of the free service manuals. This way you can trace the wires.

If you don't use it, eliminate the trailer harness. If you do, re-wire it. Do it right this time.
