Question Help...

Never had a 2500 before let alone a 4x4. How do you get the front rotors off? Do I have to pull out the axle? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

this is what i found on another thread, i would try to help but i have a 1500 and i think they are different.

For the fronts, you have to remove the caliper, the axle shaft nut (in the center with a cotter pin), and finally, you will have to remove the entire wheel bearing hub assembly. There are 4 bolts on the back of the knuckle. All 4 of those have to come out, and pray that the bearing assembly comes out as well. I know a few guys who split the bearing because they hammered it out.

If you plan to keep using your current bearings, I would hope you have access to a press, or an air hammer. Caution though, you want to baby that bearing unit. Support it as much as you can.

Once the 8 lugs are pressed out, you can see how the hub and rotor seperate.

I think the 2500's are the same as the 1500 being the unit bearing and all. Sould just pull the caliper off and the rotor should come off.

Be nice to know what year the truck is. Earlier models are different. And you have to remove the studs to get the rotor off.

Default Help

It's a late 98 5.9, I did do a few searches, one video showed the guy starting it, but then jumped to having the new rotor on...skipped everything that you need to know. Another video was good , was a 2000 99 2500 4x4, but his rotors dropped off. Not like mine.

Thanks for all the help.

Amazing what you can find with a search.

I saw this already...IT DOSEN'T TELL YOU HOW TO GET THE ROTORS OFF.
It just tells you how to change the pads.

That's because it's different than yours anyway. Once the calipers are off the rotor just slides off. On a 98, you may have to remove the whole thing as one unit(hub, rotor). And knock the studs out to separate the rotor from the hub. 99 is when they changed to the easier style. Maybe you'll get lucky. In any event, you should get a Haynes manual as it will have your style in it.

Even being different, if you would have read it, it does say how the rotor comes off. Oh, and heres another https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram-tech/105894-98-2500-4x4-front-rotor-removal.html

+1 to the kejobe

It's also a great idea to get a Haynes service manual. Pick up any parts store for the most part.

Additionally in the DIY/FAQ section is a thread that contains the Factory Service Manual. It may also provide further insight.
