My brother in law has a Bronco and recently the rear end blew to pieces, they looked at just fixing it but they found an entire axle for I think $150 and it had a locker in the rear. He loves it but his mpg's has gone down considerably with it.

Could you provide link?

Since you mention detroit locker does it replace the spider gears or the whole carrier where you just bolt the Ring gear to the locker and reinstall?

Replaces the whole carrier, at least, it should. I have no clue what the springs would be for.
