Considering 2001 Ram 2500
Enlighten me... How can you tell whether it is a stick by bolded?
The v8 stick's are super hard to come by, and are pretty much all in zero option models. To me that truck says: "I was bought new by a 67 year old man."
Two Tone, SLT, Premium Alloys.... Not been thrashed as work horse....
Not to mention step bars, chrome plating, and tonneau bed cover...
If it DOES have a stick, talk them down and buy it!!!

If its not a rebuilt transmission, you will rebuild it probably soon if you buy it and try and tow with it. I think 8k is pretty high. Like has been said for 2-3k more you could get a nice diesel, but for that money you are looking at a late model 6BT with no less than 150000 miles or an ISB. And the early ISBs have issues but if they have been resolved they arent bad.
The power differences you are talking about are over a span of getting close to 20 years... Its just a way the manufacturers can fight for your money. No one knows anything about what they buy anymore. So if the manufacturer says a bigger number than the other guy, they will probably get the most money.
Also agree that I doubt its a manual. Because of all previously stated

This year of dodge truck, I was a die hard ford owner, so forgive me if I don't know what speak off.
Im ptetty sure dana built axels for thease trucks, so thats a great start, as per axle type, dana 44, 60, ect I dont know.
U joints are are a curse on my 06 2500, check if thiers grease fittings on the front drive axles, and if thiers binding in the front u joints, front shocks with coil overs are identical to my front suspension in my o6 2500.
best of luck

Thank you for all the answers guys. After looking at the truck, I decided to pass on it...doors were rusting out, as someone mentioned. Rusting out doors is not something I want.
Looks like I'm back at square one...being stuck with an overpriced rebuilt title vehicle that I might not be able to get rid of.
