Default Backed Into Car With My Ram And Bent Exhaust Pipe. Help Please!

Well i backed into a littlecar with my ram 1500 and i happened to just put an exhaust on no less than a month ago. It bent the passenger side exhaust several inches down and alittle to the right.

What can i do to fix this? I am probably going to have to end up taking it to a shop and get them to unbend it but would just heating it with a torch and bending it be alright since it isn't bent a whole lot?

What can i do here?

***The story is in a later post on this thread. Scroll down and read it***

If you can remove it and put the pipe into a vice you'll have better luck trying to bend it. You'll have to get it really hot to make a difference for bending it.

Better off to cut off the bent section, and replace it.

It didn't do nothing to the hangers though. I thought it could just be heated up, hot and bent.

But for the story here, i have a question. I was pulling out of a park and you have to move alittle onto the road to see if people is coming and there was a car behind me.

And a car was coming pretty fast and a truck was coming the other way so i had to hurry and back up some and i hit the car behind me(toyota corrolla i think). It wasn't fast cause i was sitting still and put it in reverse. He was pretty close to me and i just hit him because i didn't want to get t-boned by the oncoming car and truck by pulling out in front of them.

It cracked an inch hole in the bumper, like it just pulled apart, it cracked a very little hole next to the headlight, and it put an exhaust-indentation in the bumper from my exhaust.

It also bent my exhaust and now i need to get it fixed.

Was this all my fault?

And how much would this cost to get that car fixed from a shop? I been told epoxy could do the trick, sanding, and painting. We didnt involve police cause im about 17 and my insurance is already 1,900 bucks for full coverage. He was nice about it and said he would call when he got estimates, but didn't and it been two days so far. I'm hoping that possibly he won't worry about it, but i know he will because it was a pretty new car.

Sounds like it to me. Things like that happen though, driving is full of quick decisions and sometimes $hit happens.

Repairs like that will probably run run in the range of $700 (though that's is an uninformed guess not seeing the damage).

You may be living with a functional if not pretty exhaust for a while.

i don't know about where you live but i think in Ontario insurance only covers your a$$ on public property and not private property which most parking lots are. since the cops where not called i think they would have a hard time to get the claim to go through. i think if he was close enough the there was no room at all for you to backup then they where a bit to close. it almost sound like 50-50 blame which is what accidents on private property usually are so you have to pay for your own repairs.

He said he was pulling out of a park, which I assume is public. The police shouldn't take any action in a small collision on private property, so it is entirely a civil matter. If you wanted to be kosher you could just drive away if it's on private property.

it still sounds like a 50-50 thing to me. obviously the guy must have been too close to your rear end but you backed into them. without the legal documents(police report) i don't think it would stand up in court and even to file an insurance claim i think they would want a copy of the police report.

I don't see how a stationary vehicle can take any of the blame for a collision.
