Break light hook up?
Hey all, bought a topper for my 2001,1500 ram. It has a 4 prong plug for the break light and interior light. My question is how do I hook this up to my truck? I have the 7 prong trailer plug. Does that help? I haven't looked to see if I have the wire that some of you talk about for the break light, snowing pretty good out here right now. But either way how would I go about doing the wiring for the 4 prong plug? would like to use it because I know I will be taking the topper off once in awhile. Anyone know? Thanks.
I have one of those for my boat trailer, can I just plug it into that and then into the topper plug and my break light and dope light will work? Sorry for the dumb question but after all I have been reading i sure thought it was going to be a pain. AND electrical and me don't get along. Lol.
Ya that makes since except for 1 thing I just remembered, out here if you have a third break light it has to work all the time. If I hook up this way when I take the boat I wont have a break light. Guess I need to just hard wire it? If so, how do I go about do that?
Good point, how tall is your boat? if it is over the height of the shell no one can see the third brake light anyways. As for how to hard wire it, you can download the fsm in the Diy area and it has all the wiring info in it. Or take it to an mech to have it hard wired, I would guess a good shop would take about 1 hr to do this job.
Or remove the 7 pin plug on the truck end and replace it with one of these. http://www.easternmarine.com/multi-t...-trailer-47185
This would give you a 7 pin plug for the shell and a 4 pin plug for the boat.
