99 ram 2500 transmission issue HELP!
There is an 8 pin plug on the drivers side, behind where the shift linkage is. Disconnect it. Take the truck for a drive. Keep in mind, you will have NO automatic functions. None. If you don't shift it, it won't shift. Start in first, accelerate slowly, shift to second, do the same for third. If it shifts fine that way, replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. (yep, gotta drop the pan again.)
lmao @2x1972.. heyyou: thanks for the advice, sounds like that will point me in the right direction for now. fml with dropping the pan again wtf lol. i just went outside to grab something and theres a puddle of atf on the ground. i must not of put the gasket on right (fu*% advanced autoparts and there cheap sh#&) but its light pink again. like theres another liquid getting in there. coolant line maybe??
Depending on which transmission you have, you might just need a band adjustment. i have a 2500 v10 with 170,000 miles. after a long heavy pull, I was backing up and lost Reverse. It came back but was weak and was still slipping. did the band adjustment and now the transmission shifts fine again and I have a strong reverse again. Band adjustments are usually recommend at transmission fluid changes. Good luck.
Start at the starting point......check fluid in neutral first. If it is correct, otehrs can then systematically help identify the issue. And Hey You is probably right on target with the governor solenoid and pressure sensor. But if the fluid is low, it becomes difficult to eliminate possible problems. And the concept of coolant in the fluid was mentioned in the thread earlier.
If you ask for help, it will be appropriate to follow the advice and not discount the suggestions that people post. Many have seen the same problem many times. Don't just go off another direction and say that you don not think _ _ _ _ is the problem. Folks are asking for a reason.
So check fluid in neutral, are you losing any coolant, and try diconnecting the plug in the side of the transmission - in that order would be best.
And if you got to UserCp, you can pput the info on your truck in Signature so everyone knows what you are working on. Just makes life easier....
