Default rebuild tranny or junkyard?

hey y'all, well turns my tranny is worse than i thought, torque converters bad and the tranny needs an overhaul =[, my question is what are yalls opinions/experiences with rebuilt trannys in these trucks. i had a ford explorer and the tranny rebuild didn't last all of a few thousand miles before it started slipping again. Not sure how the dodge rebuilds holdup, do y'all think I'm better off tryna find a junkyard tranny with relatively low miles or spending the about 2 grand to have the tranny rebuilt

If you have the 2K, I would get a Viper - http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

A rebuild is only as good as the shop that does it. If I was anywhere around where MonteC is located, I'd PM him and have him do it!

Those sure look like some badass trannys man. Im currently in a new area (Elon, NC) don't really know too many good car/truck places down here yet. I just don't wanna dump that kinda money into it only to have the rebuild not be so great

Yea it can be hard to come by a good honest mechanic these days. That is why I do all of my own work now since being screwed over in the past. Its also alot cheaper to do it yourself

question for y'all, the transmission shop told me there almost 100 percent positive the torque converters shot cuz everything electronics checking out and they think metal shavings at the bottom of the pan would cause the governor pressure solenoid code to come up. I was just reading about the removing the transmission check valve last night on here, and i think thats exactly what wound up hurting my tranny,if i were to have the fluid changed and the tranny flushed and cleaned and delete the check valve would i maybe be able to fix my problem or is the damage done already too much

Flushing these transmissions could lead to more problems. You can just drop the pan and clean everything real well and delete the check valve but dont flush the transmisson.

Would you say this is a good maintenance action overall? Or to ask a different way, would you still recommend this where the tranny has "never" presented an issue in its life? lol
