Default Fan Clutch/Water Pump

So i tried for about 30 minutes yesterday to get my fan clutch loose with no success. Just to be clear, if I am looking at the front of the truck I will need to turn the fan nut counter clockwise(pulling down) to loosen it, correct? Or is it reverse threaded? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am justing sitting at work and started thinking about it and I just confused the hell out of myself.

Thanks

It should be counter clockwise, that's how I got mine off.
It took me ages to get my loose. It was tight.

Get a big wrench, cheater bar, hammer. It'll knock it loose. That's what I had to do haha.

All I needed for mine was a set of vice grips to clamp onto the pump pulley (very gently but tight enough for it to stay on) and a set of channel locks. I Believe I pulled mine upwards from the drivers side to remove. (Counter Clockwise)

There is a special spanner tool used to hold the fan while you loosen the nut, however, you can take a sturdy flat head screwdriver, bend it about 5-6" up from the tip at a 90degree angle, and put it in the hole on the fan assembly thingy (you'll need a screwdriver that will fit in the hole) and turn it until it catches, then you should be able to loosen the nut fairly easy.

That's what I did when I took mine off.

One of these will work. Autozone has them.

I just used a big ol metal file to wedge between two parts of the fan to hold it in place while i turned the nut counter-clockwise with a big wrench and a cheater bar. Only tip I can give ya is its on TIGHT and wear gloves so you dont break your knuckles. Heres pics:

I wedged a pry bar between the pulley and water pump to hold the pulley in place. Since you are replacing the water pump, and the new one comes with a pulley, who cares if you damage it.

I left my serp belt on, put a pipe wrench on the fan nut, and then smacked the end of the wrench with a hammer. Broke loose on the first hit.
