Seems to have good spark, (testing with a screw driver and not my tester that has come up missing) I'm going to change the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires again since the stuff I have is accell and was a nightmare going on (cheap Chinese crap both cap screws broke and had to be replaced)
I think just because ill be in there I'm going to replace the pick-up as well

Well, I haven't redone any tune up items (plugs, wires, cap or rotor) because I was busy finishing the exhaust (slip on my ***) but with the cat off the truck runs better but I'm still having issues.

The truck will rev to ~3k in park if you baby it and not just smash the gas. However once its in gear it will not rev above 700 rpms. Could this be an ecu or crank position sensor issue?

A 1999 does not have an ECU. It utilizes a PCM. Not likely the problem. If it runs better without cat, fix that first so it doesn't mask other issues. Check plug wiring with TSB. And is may be possible that crank sensor was damaged (inside distributor) or wires pinched at rear of intake when installing. Check that as well.

Also, use a meter and test TPS. Make sure it is good.

Holy crap, batman! I've been looking for that as long (or longer) than Stewie! Kept being told it was there - guess that defines "hidden in plain sight!"

Sounds like you have the plug wires messed up ?

I think it is plug wires. THere is no way that a TPS, IAC And crank sensor all got broken during the install.

I also think it is plug wires because the symptoms are the same exact ones that people get after doing a tune up or the plenum (Or any other mod that requires taking off the wires and dist cap).

Take all your plug wires out and put them back in. Sometimes the boots "trick" you into only LOOKING like they are connected (Dist AND plugs).

Plug wires have been checked and rechecked, the crank sensor is not in the bell housing? The distributor pickup is the cam sensor. There are no wires pinched, crimped, twisted, or cut.

As far as ecu/ecm/pcm, I am used to saying ecu out of habit

Oops. My bad. Yes, cam sensor in disty, and crank sensor in bell housing. Damage to either's wiring can cause issues.

Have you read TSB on plug wires? Routing is foolishy critical, so it seems.

And just for giggles and grins..........are you getting any codes when this happens?

Well thanks a lot everyone, I decided to recheck the plug wires in the distributor when I realized that the no.1 plug wire was facing the passenger seat instead of the no. 6 cylinder. My best guess is that the distributor got twisted on the install and I hadn't realized it

Thanks a lot! I might post some photos I snapped over the last few days later tonight!
