I'm gonna explain to you that I have experienced within the last 5 days first one on Wednesday I got a code that said po401 which was no.4 cylinder misfire,I checked all parts it was fine cleared code. Then on Friday I code another malfuction. It came up po601 which is ECM is bad. All the codes where on my 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2l 4x4 also. I used my hyper tech programmer to read codes.I have a led strip light on my tailgate it went on for no reason by itself and it is tied into the lighting system. Now last night I had my parking lights, fog lights, and rear tail light come on but not the headlights, when I was at work., and I was nowhere close to the truck. I tried to turn them off but could not, the switch would not turn them off. so I unhooked the neg. Terminal just so I didn't drain the battery I guess they call this phantom lighting???freaky

 

Does your truck have an alarm still attached that no longer works? Wouldn't explain the misfire but could explain all the rest. I've seen left over alarms do freaky things. Especially the whole lighting thing you've described.

 

P0401 is an EGR code..... which your truck doesn't have.......

One thing i was told it could be is the ecm so i bought one and installed it today. well the truck runs a lot smoother but the rear lights ,front parking lights and the fog lights are still on now on to the next option any ideas anyone???????????
