Truck loses power
i have a 99 dodge ram 5.9 1500 gas 4x4 and the truck loses power after it shifts to 2nd. i replaced the trans with one out of a 2500 with same engine and it worked fine for a bout 5 months. i was driving down the road at about 65-70 mph and the over drive light came on like i turned it off and then it shifted out of over drive. i pulled over and stopped and seen a little smoke coming from the under the truck. i checked fluid all seemed to be alright, i get back in and start to take off and the truck does fine in 1st, shifts to 2nd and it is like the transmission is slipping. my rpm's go up engine doesn't cut out or act up, not sure if this means a rebuild or a new torque converter any help would be greatly appreciated. oh forgot to say if i let the truck sit a couple of days i can get it to shift correct all the way to about 3rd but it acts like when it gets warm it starts slipping. (3rd is about as far as i can get before i have to slow back down i live down some small country roads)
Thanks
Robert

Transmission's gone. When it shifted out of overdrive it was due to overheating.
Did you remove the anti-drainback check valve from the transmission cooler line at any point? If not, that's the most likely culprit. Yank it out, replace it with just a piece of rubber cooler line.
You might try everyone's favorite last-ditch waste of time and money, which is to say doing a fluid and filter replacement and adjusting the bands, but chances are it's game over for that transmission. If you've got the money, I highly recommend at PATC Viper or Mega Viper. If not, well... a stock rebuild is better than a junk yard transmission, anyway. These 46R's in stock trim just aren't really built for truck duty and don't last like they ought to.
