Default Air filter and exhaust question

Just bought a 2000 2500 with a 5.9 gasser looking to put a 14x3 filter. and was wonderin if you can jus go to autozone and get filter and the hold down bolt? And as for exhaust was looking at maybe a thrush welded. Does anybody run one and if so how is the sound goin to gut cat at same time as well.

There is a sticky thread about air filters. you will need a piece of all thread that is bent kind of S shaped as the hole in TB is not in the center. There is a drawing in one of the threads.

Weazle I put a Thrush muffler on my truck just yesterday. Also running Pace Setter shorties with stock y pipe and cat. To me it sounds nice. Nice little rumble. Not over bearing and people notice it.

My 5.2 has a gutted cat and a Thrush 24" glasspack. I think it sounds pretty darn good. My wife hates it, but my mom likes it.

If you don't want to bother with bending a piece of all thread you can go to junk yard and grab the bolt off a older Dakota or ram and it has a bracket that bolts down to tb that's offest to center your air cleaner.

I have a couple of those That I would happily send the OP providing he lives close to NE.

That, and looking in the FAQ/DIY section would give all the info needed. Not to mention it won't do anything for the OP's truck. Except for having a loud sucking noise that I guess some people don't mind and a loss of bottom end. LOL

I still dont understand how they could cause a loss of lower end unless they are truly less restrictive and let more air in? and If a larger than stock throttlebody was in the mix the limiting factor would be the larger throttlebody... the more restrictive air cleaner would just be holding the larger TB back and allowing it to perform more like a stock 47mm one
I wonder if you noticed the loss of lower end because you have a larger than stock throttle body on your truck? its the only thing that makes sense if you think about it since if the stock throttle body was there it would be the limiting factor and allow for less airflow keeping the low end grunt in check on an otherwise mainly stock setup right?...

I can get the all thread at work so im good there. Right now im basically running a open throttle body since the stock air cleaner cracked to pieces when i went to check air cleaner. Going to see what the local autozone or oreillys have in stock as far as 14x3 and thrush welded mufflers. I like the look of the red spectre air cleaners on ebay. Probably get sumthin cheap for now and order one of those. I had the thrush on a mustang and really liked the sound. Hopin the dodge sounds similer. Hopefully future projects will be sct tuner and electric fan swap. Trucks a everyday driver so tryin to squeeze as much mpg out of her as i can. Thanks for all the tips guys will probably on here alot in the near future. Oh and i live in southern indiana.

I don't know either. And I'm not the only one that notices it. I tried it on my 98 with stock TB and with my Fastman 50mm. As a matter of fact, I tried it before and after all the mods listed in my sig. (except the 98 also had a Magna flow cat). They all used to be on my 98.
