I found a 89 12 valve for $2,000 it has 145xxx on it. Would that be a good buy? Or would a cummins from a second gen slip in easier?

That is a good buy. But a 2nd gen 12v will swap much easier, all things considered.

That is what i was thinking too. Im Hoping to get swap done this summer so im not in too much of a rush to get a donor truck yet.

Hadn't thought of this, but that '89 would be a non intercooled motor, so untill you modded it it wouldn't be MUCH of a power upgrade, you'd probably get ridiculous fuel economy though haha
