Rear end popping

Default Rear end popping

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 and today it started making a popping sound in the rear end every time I take a turn I know its not the u joints it could be the differential but im not sure any ideas?

likely either the LSD or the spider gears.
remove the cover, drain the oil, and inspect what's going on.
check the magnet in the bottom for anything stuck to it.

spin each wheel back and forth and check that the spider gears don't have any chunks missing.

if you find any little sheet metal parts those are the clips from the LSD clutch pack, which dodge designed to break and chew up your rear end.

If it is a LSD and you put the cover back on, be sure to put some limited slip diff additive in along with the gear oil. If you're lucky, it could fix your problem.
