Default older blocks in 1996 dodge ram 1500

I have a 96 ram 1599 with a 5.2, it has two spun main bearings. I purchased a rebuilt 318 but now have been told it wont work because it doesn't have a place for cmp and cranks position sensor. it is and older carb motor. can someone tell me where these two sensors are located? are the blocks different?. I was only planning on using the short block anyway since it was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago and my 96 only has 80,000 miles on it. will the older block work with the fuel injection? thanks

I was under the impression that the carb motors are not the same blocks and they do not have the correct bracketry for AC systems. So you have the wrong engine.

It would make sense that the carb blocks would not have places for the Crank position sensor and cam position sensor. Those are for EFI and computer controlled timing engines.

The older engine doesn't interchange with the "magnum" engine. If you want to keep the fuel injection and factory computer you need a newer engine.
The Magnum engine is a direct descendent of the Chrysler LA engine, which began with the 273ci V8 in 1964. While the Magnum 3.9, Magnum 5.2, and Magnum 5.9 (1993-up) engines were significantly based on the 239, the 318, and the 360 — respectively — many of the parts will not directly interchange and are not technically LA engines; the only part that is actually unchanged is the crankshafts, and even these have different OEM part numbers
