Default Engine surging

Have developed an issue with my 2001 Ram Off Road. It has the 5.2 liter in it. Most noticable when I am cruising steady at about 60-65mph, if I go over a bump in the road or a dip the engine will rev up a couple hundred RPM's. It does it more regularly when using cruise control. The only modification to the engine is a K&N intake and I did reprogram the computer for the 35's that are on the truck. Could this be a vacuum issue or a sensor? Don't believe it to be a transmission problem, lockup converter, since it is more prevailant with the cruise control.

Probably vacuum leak. Check all the lines and go from there.

I was thinking that, possible to check for a vacuum leak using a guage. But does the vacuum play more of an input when using cruise control. Not sure if the cruise control is held by vacuum or electrically. If vacuum holds it then I would definetly feel like it would be a vacuum issue

Cruise is indeed vacuum powered.

How hard is it find a vacuum leak? Could a vacuum leak also cause my a/c not to work properly. System has a good charge but doesn't blow cold. Heard the dampers are vacuum controlled and a vacuum issue could cause it not to work properly

Mine was doing a surge while in overdrive, or cruising after approx 45 mph. Thought my overdrive or tranny was messed up. Every time I'd hit a bump my exhaust would give a roar. Ended up being bad TPS on side of throttle body. Replaced it and problem went away

I was torn between a vacuum leak or the TPS. ekaplan that is exactly what is going on, but it is very pronounced if the cruise control is on. Also wasn't sure if a vacuum leak would cause my a/c not to be pumping out cold air. Last year it was only down by 1/2 pound of freon. I know that makes a difference but if I had a leak, wouldn't it be completely empty or alot lower than a 1/2 pound?

Is the TPS a plug and play or do you have to do a calibration setup?

Just disconnect the battery while you swap it out.
