I have a year and a half worth of gas mileage data on my truck, and the only thing I saw make a difference was replacing my K&N CAI with the stock intake. I gained about 1mpg average, as I said, this is with dozens of data points, so it should be reliable.

Not to discourage the search for MPG, but I've had my 1998 since new. Its an auto, 4 X 4, 5.9, stock 3.55 gears and 265 tires. I have never seen it go over 14 mpg. Not once. So I doubt the trucks will do a whole lot better than that. Always heard Chevy's were better, but I recently got a 1994 Z71, 350, auto, 245 tires, unsure about the gearing but I'm thinking its a little lower. Oh yeah, no cat running to a loud dual in/out flowmaster also. I just checked the mileage on the same route I drive the Dodge and got 12.8. Last time I checked the Dodge it was 12.9. Granted, the Chevy is pre Vortec, but I think all those stories I heard of the 350 Chevys getting 18 mpg musta been BS.

I had a 99 Chvy 350 with the Vortek and got 18 to 19. I get 11 mpg on my Ram, but am not getting OD for some reason. Next task after paint and body....

Yeah, but you're special. Kidding. I checked MPG on my granddad's 96 Z71 w/ 305 Vortec and only got 15 MPG. Must be the driver. Out of curiosity, if you had a Chevy w/ 350 that could reach 19 mpg...why did you get rid of it? I mean, I like my Dodge better, but if I could trade for another 4 X 4 truck of the same year and relative engine size and gain 7 or 8 mpg, I'd be all over it.

The 360 is a big fat pig! My brothers 01 reg cab 4x2 5.9L, which he's had since new and maintained religiously, has never, ever got better than 13 mpg. I granny my 318 and can sometimes nurse 20 mpg-averaging about 19 mpg now. But after trying double-tip platinum plugs and platinum wires and gas additive and all kinds of other gimmicks, it is simple granny driving that gets me great mileage-never exceed 55 mph and usually drive 45-50 mph and do 0-60 mph in 20 seconds or so, and the tailgate is always down. If I drive normal, I get 15.5-16 mpg. The 360 has 0% chance of getting better than 14 mpg. It is a pig.

p.s. I am semi-retired so I am never in a hurry. If I were still working I would be satisfied with the normal 15-16 mpg.

I let my son buy it when I started driving my Jag and I also had a company car. Wish I still had it even though it only had a door on the pass side for the the xtended cab.

If I drove like you, I might could get 15 or 16. But I've been exceeding 55 mph since way back before it was legal lol. I usually get up to about 72 and set the cruise control, so yeah, not gonna be setting any MPG records here.
