Suggestions:

1. Unless you are getting to 55MPH and over....FOR OVER A LONG DISTANCE, take overdrive off. You will add 1.5MPG city by doing that. I never have OD on in the city.
2. Do not drive over 65 MPH. Your gas mileage goes down EXPONENTIALLY when you drive fast.

You will probably never get 14-15 MPG (mixed). Try a Spectre HPr cloth filter. That should help get you almost 1 MPG.

You are probably not going to get much in terms of MPG with our trucks.

Good tune up, make sure O2 sensors are clean and good, no clogged cat, and make sure plenum is good.

And like CPTAFW163 said (paraphrasing) "keep your foot out of it."

is it stock? 15mpg on a 4wd 5.9l is a tough task to pull off..Is it an extended cab?.. the norm is 12-14 with the aggressive drivers getting around 9... of course things like heavy filled toolboxes, lifts and bigger / aggressive tires hurt too...
bottom line these truck just dont do well with gas mileage due to design limitations of the time... Thats why more who can afford something more efficient have gone that route. the newer trucks have come a long way considering power output vs gas mileage..

yes, they are running too rich and smoking.... I've discovered most who run the injectors I bought are driving 94-95 jeeps with 39psi fuel pumps not 96 -newer with 49psi at the rail.
... I bought an adjustable regulator to see if I can get things back in range since the pcm can only add fuel not remove it from base programming...

PCM can adjust either way. Within a limited scope...... Its possible that at the higher pressure, your injectors just pump too much fuel, even at the PCM's minimum pulse.....

I thought It was Drew that said the pcm can only add fuel not remove it.... im at -33 fuel trim right now and its still running super rich as well as still having the misfire shudder in overdrive...(What you say makes sense since it has stopped billowing smoke now that the pcm has had a chance to learn some).... ( suppose I could have a faultly injector dumping fuel...I guess I should recheck all plugs.
Its very frustrating since this all started after having the transmission rebuilt..
sorry dont mean to hijack this thread from super dodge...

nah- the PCM can manage either direction.. adding or subtracting.. If i've said that before, i've misspoke.

The - in front of the 33 implies that the PCM is indeed removing fuel. Yep, you are running pig rich...... You need smaller injectors, lower fuel pressure, or remapped fuel tables to get you back where you need to be.....

Besides, the PCM HAS to be able to adjust in both directions, to compensate for the WIDE variety of conditions these trucks can possibly operate in.
