Default Transmission VIN Challenge

Ok, I have searched and searched trying to decipher the VIN number( PK521184262579 7717 ) located on the side of a chrysler\dodge transmission. The challenge is to identify the transmissions build date, model number and donor information(truck, car, van) using only the information stamped on the drivers side of the transmission. No automobile vin numbers or bell housing numbers are available. The number should be broken down and explained for each piece of info.

I have seen other posts where the answer comes from having additional information about the automobile the transmission is in. If the transmission has been swapped they might be wrong.

This is my transmission.

Thank you and Good Luck,

Lets break this down. First this is not a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). It is actually a part number with build date. PK means package. 52118426 is the part number for a 46RE transmission out of either a full size van or truck. 2579 is the build date meaning it was build the 257 day and 9th month. It was built September 14, 1996. 7717 is sequence number meaning it was the 7,717 unit built. Was this a test or were you looking for specific info??

Wow. I cannot figure out what he is looking for either. So if this is original, his truck is a 96....but that info wasn't provided....

Hope it answers his question.

You are a transmission god. Lol I was posting this for myself incase I need to rebuild or order specific parts for it, And I like to know when im junkyard hunting what I am looking at.
Thank you so much!

My truck is a 1996 1500 2wd. And now I know for sure a 46RE from the right time frame, so it's probably original. I didnt know you need the year of the truck to determine the year the tranny was built. Could it have been built September 14, 1995?

96 to 99 tranny will work. Although I'd try to find one from a 96 or 97. Some small changes were made to the sensors on the outside, so a 98 or 99 tranny might not have the provisions.
