you tranny shouldnt overheat with it off? if anything it runs hotter in overdrive... and if it is overheating it turns off the overdrive to attempt to cool off.... so if your od light keeps coming on it may not be a short but rather your transmission is on its way out... this happens when the torgue converter starts to fail...
the od light also turns on when someone doesnt pay attention to the owners manual and attempts to tow in overdrive.... it overheats the tranny , the light comes on and od turns off... eventually this burns out the transmission fliud and transmission.

well the trans temp light comes on like 20 seconds after the O/D light does, and ive had 3 transmissions and 3 torque converters and theyve all done the same, any suggestions?

So it's done this with 3 different trans and torque converters in it? Am I understanding that right? Have you checked to see if your trans cooler is clogged up? Have you done the check valve delete? Sounds like your lines may be clogged up and not cooling the trans properly...

So that means your transmission is overheating... It turns the od of right about the time or slightly before) the computer tells you its overheated... (when the light comes on the OD turns off just to be clear)

To me that says somethings wrong with your transmission... have you checked the fluid in neutral while the engine is running?
I'd say something else may be wrong if you burned up three transmissions... maybe the PCM is messed up?
are you running large tires without the right gearing?35" or biger can overheat things and burn up transmissions quick..

just saw papaG's comment...good suggestion.

If you still have the check valve in the line going to the radiator, get rid of it.

From the lower fitting on the radiator, a soft line hooks on, and heads back 8 inches or so, to a couple metal fittings, that connect to the hard line via a flare nut, Between the soft line, and the flare nut, is the check valve. You can just replace that section with some hose, and a couple clamps, you can drill out the check ball in the valve, or, you can make up a new hose with the right fittings (quick connect on one end, flare fitting on the other.) for around 30 bucks or so. I just used a piece of trans hose, and a couple clamps. Less than 5 bucks.
