im new to the forum and need help please!!

I gotta 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2l v8
its got to where after being ran for a while it stalls out. then wont crank back up until the truck is cooled down. also while taking off the truck hesitates to take off and pick up speed. the only code it is throwing is a temp. switch malfuncution. ive replaced radiator,thermostat, serviced transmission,fuel filter. some times when going out to fire the truck up the first time for the day it just turns over until i hold the gas pedal to the floor then it fires up but wont idle on its own after about 20 minutes of holding the pedal down to keep it running it will stall out then fires back up and idles on its own. dont know what the problem is? please help i dont know what is wrong.

yes it works properly. im wondering if it could possibly be a faulty map sensor or 02 sencors that isnt throwing codes? is that possible?

 

The code for the temp switch kinda sorta makes sense with your symptoms. Generally, they will fail "open", which leads the computer to believe it is REALLY cold out, so, it DUMPS gas...... flooding the engine. (hard to start, stalling at idle, etc.) thing is though, the gauge in the dash gets it cue from the PCM, which gets ITS cue from the temp switch..... (which is actually a variable resistor..... not a switch) Check the wiring from the temp sensor, to the PCM. Two wire sensor, should be right next to the thermostat housing on the intake.

 

ive looked the wires over earlier today. they look fine. i should probly just replace the switch. im just tryin to make sure i dont like throwing parts at it i wanna fix it the first time lol. the truck also stalls out going down the road some times and to keep it running i have to 2 foot it. (give it gas while applying the brakes to stop to keep it running) is there a possibility its jumping time? cause when i first got the truck 4 years ago it was throwing a code and advanced auto parts told me that it was the camshaft position sensor. i researched possible fixs for that and found that its possibly the timing chain and gears. had a mechanic tell me the 1/4 of slack in the timing chain is fine. is that to much play in the chain?

Temp sensor is dirt cheap. Wouldn't hurt to just replace it. Might solve the problem.

Cam sensor controls injector timing. That's it. Has nothing at all to do with ignition. If you are getting a code for that, wouldn't hurt to replace that either. If you aren't, don't worry about it. Yet.
