I just picked up this truck and I am trying to get it smogged. First it threw a cylindar misfire, changed that whole side of spark plugs and it seems to have gone away. Now I have P0455. I started going through the steps to fix code changed the gas cap, that didn't help. Then I made my own smoke machine (fog machine + Aquarium pump) which didn't seem to work real well. I started looking around and I could smell the gas before I even found it. On the Passenger's side mid-way down going to the rear I found that there is something obviously missing, but I am not sure what it is.
I attached two pictures, but I'll try my best to describe it. If you follow the emissions tubes on the passenger side from the engine bay to the back they eventually make a 90 degree turn to go to the gas tank. This problem area of mine is right where the lines make a 90 degree turn. On my truck there is one canister that looks relatively unharmed, except it is being held up by wire and then in a spot where it looks like the tubes from the engine bay go into "something," there is nothing... They are just exposed to open air. I can see some broken plastic, but I don't even know where to begin to look for a replacement part since I don't know what is missing or what it is called.
Sooo.... What am I missing?

see these pics.
its relatively easy to fix. you just have to replace any hoses that are missing, rotted, or leaking. if your canisters are broken, get replacements at the junkyard.
you'll need 2 or 3 sizes of hose. about 5/16, about 7/16-1/2", and about 5/8"

Thanks for the reply. Great to see what it looks like when its not missing. Yours threw a code for having cracked pipes to the canister. Mine is missing the canister entirely, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that is what it wrong with this truck. Guess I'm taking a trip to the junk yard this week.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Your first pic is of a missing charcoal canister/evap canister the square one is Cali model, the same as on the late 90's jeeps, the round one is a round one usually found in 49 state models. The square one is a dealer only part.
The PO most likely broke the Cali model and rigged in one that he got at a junkyard instead of paying the $90 at the dealer for the right one. The stock one had more hoses connecting to it.
