Default open exhaust questions

ive never ran my truck with a cat, had a flow 40 on it for about a year underneath the passenger seat, that went bad back in november so i just cut it off so its just stock manifolds and the stock y pipe ending underneath the passenger seat. is this going to have any negative effects? i have a flow 40 i could weld on but ive just been too lazy, and it sounds awesome. any thoughts or knowledge??

You'd probably want some sort of muffler on there whether it be a high flow magnaflow or even a glass pack. Having no muffler i'm sure pops a lot and is absolutely obnoxious, especially with a 5.9L. My 4.7 sounded good at idle but when you get on it, its complete junk.

And not knowing where you are located, I would suspect that there could be legal implications as well.

Atleast put a glasspack or something of the sort on.

i live in texas but i get it inspected in a county without emissions. do these motors not need backpressure from a muffler or are the manifolds enough? thats my real concern

You want some length of pipe after the y-pipe, otherwise reversion will bring fresh air to the O2 sensor causing a false lean condition at low engine speeds.

Also it'll sound absolutely terrible

Hmmm..... I'm in a rural county in West Texas. No emission testing here weither.

But federal emission testing is NOT what cops write tickets on. Check Texas Motor Vehicle Code.

And it will sound like crap.......

yea, its always thrown P0138 cause my O2 sensor hangs, and just recently it picked up P0171 for lean, which i assume would be that false lean condition. it sounds pretty bad *** and it gave me more top end power

I ran open headers for about 6 months, and literally lost about 25% percent of my hearing. Its not worth it. I have to get regular hearing test because of my line of work, so there is confirmed hearing loss. Just get a cheap glass pack and throw it on there. I used to think it was cool to run open exhaust, but its just obnoxious, and not in a cool way
