Default 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5.9L

HEllo every one, I had a question about my husbands truck. He is in the army and is coming home soon from deployment and I am trying to have his truck ready and looking good as a surprise. I am trying to find out what transmission it has so that I can purchase the rebuild kit for it. Please for give me for sounding uneducated about this issue. I think it is a 46RE but I am not sure. It is a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5.9L Gas Automatic here is the VIN 1B6KF26Z3TJ194647

Once again thank you so much for any help yall can give me

That would be a 46RE Transmission. Is he going to rebuild it himself when he returns? If he needs a bullet-proof transmission, he can check out the mega-viper from PATC. Pricey, but bullet proof!

Thank you for the info, I decided to Just let Aamco do all the work it needed a new transmission and a new radiator. The guy also told me that the reason the 4x4 doesnt work is probably some thing simply like a vacuum hose or sensor. It needed more work than I thought but hey when he gets back from over seas it will be a great surprise "I HOPE" haha

Sometimes the vacuum line to the CAD unit that engages the fron axle gets brittle or snagged. NHope that is all that is wrong with that part...it's a pretty cheap fix.

I hope AAmco does a good job on the transmission for you!

Glad your husband will be returning soon. I can only imagine how challenging deployment can be for serviceman and the family. Good luck!
