Default External trans filter question

Gonna install an external trans filter this weekend. Should the filter be on the outgoing hose to the cooler or incoming hose to the trans? Also gonna get rid of the check valve if there is one?

Pressure line from tranny so it pushes fluid through it. Not in the return line.

I would put it before the cooler so it catches any crap that could get caught in the cooler.
