Default Which way to install fuel pump?

Hi all,
I have a `98 1500 with the 37 gallon tank and am putting a new fuel pump in it. The pump looks like it will fit fine with the sending unit arm either pointing forward or to the rear. Don't remember how the old one was so I am hoping that someone has advice on how I should reinstall...IE sending arm pointing forward, to the rear or does it matter? Thanks, Dach.

Yes it matters which way the pump goes in. Here is a pix of how the pump looks like from the wheel well. All the fittings should point to frame rail.

There also should be an arrow on the tank as well as the pump.

Yep that there is, the arrow on the pump points to the front of the truck. Thanks for reminding me about that

Default Got it!! Fuel Pump orientation solved!

I checked for the arrow on the pump and tank like you guys suggested and figured out what happened when we changed the pump last time. The arrow on the pump points at about 4 O'clock when viewing the pump from above and 12 O'clock is towards the front of the truck. This puts the sender arm pointing directly forward and swinging freely. I think that last time we had the arrow pointing towards the front of the truck which made the arm point back at 7 'Oclock and caused the sender to never read accurately. Made even more sense when I found the two little hash marks on the tank, which corresponeded to the arrow on the pump and the arm. So bottom line, arrow on pump lines up with the two marks on the tank and this puts the arm pointing forward. Heres some pics. I uploaded them as attachments, hope they come out OK. In the photos the front of the truck is left. Dach.
