Default Tranny Hesitation

OK here is the deal. Ive got a 98 Ram with the 5.2L V8 automatic trans. My problem just started tonight so I have not tried troubleshooting anything yet. Ive read through the forums a little and come across similar problems.

My truck hesitates when shifting into 2nd. It will stay in 1st until like 30mph then shifts. Im not sure what RPM it shifts at giving that I have no tach., but it is definately too high of an RPM for normal operation. It shifts fine into the other gears after first. Tomorrow i will check my fluid lvls hopefully that is the problem. Ive read about a speed sensor that could be the problem and other sensors.

If anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Untill then, I will check my fluid lvls and possibly replace that speed sensor thing if I can find it.

I've been having shifting troubles, and have been doing/getting alot done to fix the problem. Mine would loose 3rd altoegether when warm. Now it will shift, but is a little too late for what I think is right. It won't go into 3rd (Drive) until 40mph at 3200 rpm with normal take-off. Now, if I put my foot into it, it seems to shift better, but with gas prices high, I don't want to do that. Plus, in traffic, I don't even have that option.

well I topped off the tranny fluid this morning and no change. I took it to Autozone and had them run their Diagnostics tool on it. No results except for a slow reaction on one of the O2 sensors which I knew about already. I cant seem to find the speed sensor that has been mentioned in other forums. I purchased one from Autozone that was listed for my truck to compare it to what i thought was the sensor but no match. Im at a loss.
Could someone post some pics or explain the location and maybe give a SKU# or part # or something. Id like to explorwe all of the options that I can deal with before bringing it to a tranny shop. But maybe that is what I need to do.

Here you go RC. I did a post with pics.

https://dodgeforum.com/m_240833/mpag.../tm.htm#240833

I got mine from Advanced Auto, and they said there were two to choose from. I took a pic of mine on the truck, and brought it in. Turns out it was the $23 dollar one instead of the $40... usually things don't work out like that.

GP Sorenson Speed Sensor P/N: 779-9702

Hope this helps. Easy to change out, just know that you will get fluid out when you remove it.
