Default 98 Ram 1500 4WD 5.9L Won't start

Turn the key, a little hum and all the lights and gauges work, just won't do anything else. At first we thought it was the ignition switch, so I cleaned and reapplied di-electric grease to the connectors. Worked for a few days w/o incident then back to the same old same old. This has been getting progressively worse for a few months. Twice it has died while driving. No Engine Light either time. Sounds like a sensor to me, but wanted to get some advice before chasing my tail. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Have you cleaned the battery terminals, at the battery, starter and grounds? You also might want to pull the steering column covers back off and inspect the wires running along side it. They can be problematic if you have a tilt wheel.

We have cleaned the terminals and inspected the wires in the steering column. Nothing broken or exposed. It won't accept a jump when it is in this state either. In the past, we have let it sit and after a few days it will start. No jump required. That's why I though it might be a sensor. Any ideas?

I cannot think of a sensor that would cause this problem. Can you swap the battery with one frm something else and see what it does?

starting to see more batteries with 'shorted cells' and they can cause all kinds of problems. did you check the bulkhead connecter by the e brake or the ground by the dr side bumper mount. by the way gd that hood looks good did you get that fender fixed

I think the battery is no good. Have another car or a friend that will let you swap and try at least.(as GD stated) Before you spend money on a new one.
