Red face 46re problems

Hello forum members;recently my brothers 2001 1500 ram p/u ( 2wd,5.9L) apprx. 125,000 miles tranny started a whining sound when in gear(forward&reverse),then 1740 code showed up while at highway speed. No slipping or vibrating. We changed fluid and filter, and found 3"-4" flat semi-circular piece of metal.Truck is still driving normally, whining is still there though.I know a rebuild is coming,so I would like any recommendations for good rebuilders.Hopefully in south florida; Dont really need high-performance,but something better, more durable than OEM.Thank you for any help provided. My brother and I can R&R the tranny, but rebuilding it our selves is a little out of our comfort zone.

Have a look at MonteC's Transmission corner thread in the FAQ section. LOTS of good information there. Including a list of parts for beefing the stock trans.

The part you found is quite likey the snap ring that holds the O/D unit together. (somewhat....) common failure on these trannies. But, indicates that the O/D unit is getting ready to give up the ghost.
