Default 99 Ram makover

sup everybody names Jake and i'm currently deployed to Korea for the next 10 months, with the money i save over here i'm planning on redoing a lot of thing on my 1999 ram 1500 Laramie 5.9 quad cab 2wd truck, i just wanted some opinions and price ranges that you all have paid, I am an F-16 crew chief so i know my way around tools but ive never really worked on cars, only jets so for things like lifts and engine upgrades ill more then likely have someone proffesional back in the states do it.

Anyways heres what im wanting to do so any opinions would be appreciated...

1. i want to lift my truck roughly 5-6 in any idea on price range/certain brand lift kit to use
2. flowmaster or magnaflow exhaust?
3. is a cold air intake worth it and if so what brand?
4. plan on running 35in tires whats a good all terrain tire that will last the long haul?

+1 on making it a street truck. Re-gear the diffs, get an SCT tuner, throw in some 1.7 roller rockers, and a shiny new throttle body. 2wd's aren't worth lifting.

2WD suspension lifts are very limited... I wouldn't bother with more than a 2" level kit (maybe around $80?) from any brand that fits your liking. But if you want a big lift just for looks, Fabtech has a 6.5" lift that runs about $1400 (and your truck has to be extended cab I believe), there's not too many other brands that make suspension lifts for 2wd's.

By exhaust do you mean just a muffler or a whole system? If you want loud you need a high flow (magnaflow) or gutted cat, a new y-pipe, and a muffler (your choice which brand, there's many.) ~350 or so

I think the general consensus is that CAI for these trucks won't do much except make the engine bay sound and look cooler under the hood. The stock setup is basically a CAI already. But if you want one anyway I'm sure zman (the other user who posted here) would recommend the Volant CAI, he has one. $200-$300

35" Tires will only fit if you lift at least 5"s (although you might be able to go 3-4.5" with rubbing)..I'd go with regular old BF Goodrich A/T's or something. They'll run ya $1000+

also forgot to mention i will be doing a full exhaust im looking for something real deep and loud so far from browsing ive seen a lot of members leaning towards magnaflow.. is there a peticular series thats like how flowmaster has the 40 and super 44 series?

i see your point on suspension lifts, would running the leveling kit you mentioned along with a body help run bigger tires or is a body lift just as usless as a suspension lift? i only ask because i would like to run bigger tires i currently have 31" nitto terra grapplers but they wear down to quick and when i PCS to utah after korea i need tires to make the drive from the east coast where my household goods are to the west coast..

For tires I recommend Goodyear wrangler duratrac A/T's they are a fairly aggressive tread and wear well. I got mine new about 6 months before I towed a car from Cali to VA and they still looked fairly new when I was done, after almost 5k miles they are still deep tread.

For looks on the intake I prefer the 14x3, Name: photo-1.jpg

Any CAI you buy will be only for looks as the stock setup is a better CAI than you can buy for any price.

If you want to lift it, don't let anyone here tell not to just cuz it is a 2wd. it is your truck and if you want to lift it or slam it it is up to you, the leveling kit will let you run a bit larger tire but not by much, but it does make the truck look like a truck should and not a half *** aerodynamic brick, it turns it into a full fledged aerodynamic brick.
