Default OBD1 can swap

I have a 1995 ram with a 5.9, I want to do a cam swap to something more aggressive but don't know if the computer will compensate for the differences. I've looked all around but cant figure this out!! Can anyone give me any info on the computer tolerances or what I have to do??

Best bet is to call one of the cam manufacturers, and let them make a recommendation. You have a bit of leeway with the computer, but, not as much as you would probably like.

Welcome to DF!

I've been told that the computer will compensate 20% more or less fuel but I'm not looking for anything radical (for now) just something with a little more power and sound! Also as far as bolt on performance (1.7's, tb, PCM) what is there out there that people have felt the most hp gain for the money?

I've been looking at the M1 intake, throttle body, roller rockers, or mopar PCM and there all about the same price! Any insite on what will really open her up?

And thanks! Glad to be here!

Mopar Performance PCM first, then add your goodies after that.

Is the power gain very noticible? Bc I've heard a lot of mixed things about it and decided that I would let my decision fall on what I find out here! Lol the truck ran a 16 flat at 84 mph in the quarter, i can't afford a 408 at the moment but would like to see what power and e/t's I can get out of this motor!

Ditch the TB spacer, it doesn't do a thing on our trucks. It's designed for carbed, or throttle body injected engines.

Mopar Performance PCM would probably give you a noticeable bump, but, I think that wants premium gas too......

Yes it does, as the old saying goes "you wanna play your gonna pay".....

I wish I could say it made a big difference but my truck has had the Mopar performance pcm since day one, I have no idea how a stock pcm is compared to the performance pcm. One day I will put the stock pcm in the truck and see but I am in no rush to do that.

I don't blame you! And I'm used to the price of premium (unfortunatly). Is the mopar PCM the only choice available?

Not the 'only' choice..... but, I would say it is the 'better' choice..... the other alternative is sending your PCM out to be reprogrammed, at 250 a pop, or so...... and that's EACH time it needs to be tweaked.... (very few get it right on the first go-round.... especially when making major changes, such as a cam.....)
