Default Fuses - being eaten alive!

What's up guys,

I've been fiddling with my wiring in my truck since the previous owner thought duct tape was a great way to connect speaker wires... I've come across aggravation behind the radio. I found that the PO tapped into the power outlet positive line and cigarette outlet positive line... then either the radio was stolen and all the wires were torn out... or the guy was just sloppy (I opt for the second) and I had live wires just chilling, tapping the frame from time to time. I think this was the original cause of my fuses to blow out, e.g. coming into contact with other wires and such... Anyways, to the point! Is there device/method to confirm how much amperage is going through a particular fuse/fuse space... I can plug in my voltmeter and check that it's flowing 12v to the cig/pwr outlet... but I have no idea on how to check how many amps are flowing through it... I understand it all depends on what is connected/flowing through the line... I just want a reading :P

Also, while working today my ABS and Brake light came on... didn't notice exactly when it happened... I ran some fog lights as well... I saw another thread with "abs/brake light" title... didn't seem to relate (at least in how my issue came about!)

Thanks for taking the time to read my rant/question!

You have to have a meter that reads milliamps to measure the current flow.

Most meters will ONLY do milliamps... and if you have a more serious draw than that, bad things might happen to the meter...... read carefully before testing.

And do not have meter set on ohms when there is voltage on the circuit - it will let the smoke out of the meter......
