Default Fenders....

Alright, so I need a new fender for my 2001 dodge ram 1500 slt laramie quad cab 4X4 with a 5.9 gas guzzlin engine. ( say that in one breath ). I went to a salvage yard to see if i could pick up a nice fender without paying for a new one. I found a 98 slt laramie with a perfect fender. I just figured out that she wont fit. Now I'm looking on ebay for a new fender and have spotted one but it says, "(old style)". What exactly does that mean? I asked the seller and he or she said the newer style has more rounded features, where as the old style is more boxy. Since i got my fender from a 1998 ram, i assume thats the old style right? I guess the reason I'm thrown off is because on the site i put in my specific year make and model and it says it fits. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I never heard of that site before. I see that all the fenders on there say old style. I'm assuming old style is specified due to when they changed the style in 02. So that means really the fender I got off of a 98 should work wouldn't you think? Its the radiator support thats in the way of it fitting right.

I did get into a tiny fender bender, maybe it was enough to put the support out of wack. Theres got to be someone out there whos put an older fender on a newer truck. The only thing i could tell right off hand is, theres a bigger hole where the headlight sets in on my 01. Where as the 98 has a small round hole.

Check to see that light will fit before installing. May have to loosen radiator support to get it to fit in. Not sure, never changed fenders out in one of these and mine is a 99.

I believe the hole behind the headlight is the only difference. Might have to open up the small hole on the '98 to be able to fit the headlight correctly on an '01.

Yeah, I found that all listings for these fenders are all for 94-02. Turns out just losening my radiator support did the trick heh. It was somewhat bent but nothing a ratchet strap couldnt fix. Got the fender on there alright and seems to be the same. Just a couple of suddle differences that dont matter. Sometimes when things aren't going right, you just need to take a break and go back to it later. Thanks for the suggestions
