Default Emissions/leak codes

I have been getting two codes fairly consistently over the past month:

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)

I have replaced the gas cap, fixed a small cracked hose, and crawled under every inch of the fuel tank/canister/tank/filler hoses, emissions canister lines, Emsiion controls on pass front side, etc. I tried K&N filter sealer around the gas cap also. Nothing seems to help much. I haven't found any other leaks and don't know what else to do besides start replacing hoses. Any ideas?

I had the exact same errors. I replaced the gas cap and issue went away for almost 5000 miles.. it reoccured once but i do not know if my gas cap was tight or not..

Thanks for the response. I am thinking of trying another gas cap. The ones I've found only spin a couple of turns instead of a full 4 or more that I've seen on other vehicles. I got another check engine light/codes this morning after only 50 miles. I'm trying the simple/cheap stuff first.[sm=dontgetit.gif]

mine is reoccuring more now... I have checked all the hoses but maybe i need to pop them all off/on or something. Maybe we could just block off the whole evap system?? wonder how it would run then?? I am also going to check the filler tube connection to the tank and make sure the clamp is tight.

I WORK ON BMW'S. I HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM WHERE I WOULD REPLACE A CAP AND THEN 2 WEEKS LATER THE CAR IS BACK FOR SAME F/C.
BMW POSTED A BULLITN TO REPROGRAM ENGINE CONTROL MODULE, YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK JUST TO BE SURE THAT THER IS NOT ANY THING LIKE THIS FOR YOUR
PROBLEMS YOU ARE HAVING. CALL THE DEALER AND SEE.

Update: I replaced the PCV valve and it was somewhat plugged. It should rattle when shook, but didn't. No codes since....

How is yours? does it rattle?

also, i would think there should be a sensor somewhere that monitors the evap system, have you looked for one?

I checked mine last night and it does rattle. I pulled it and sprayed the gunk off it and through it w/carb cleaner anyway.. Evap sys has canisters in front and under bed. The ones under hood have electric plugs.. I checked all my hoses and they seem good. Will have to check my manual about the sensors... I also thought maybe the gas tank hose from the tank to filler spout may be loose but it was not..
