Default Getting Truck Ready for a Long Trip

My truck is a stock 94 Dodge 1500, 6 cylinder auto., PB, PS, no air, base model. I am getting this truck ready for a long trip from the Midwest to the South West, about 3 days straight driving. Not pulling any trailer, just light load, Truck is low mileage; about 45,000. Had regular maintenance and is in great condition. Never had any work done on it. Vehicle is in storage during winter months and is used only during summer for the odd run to the dump, pulling a small trailer. New tires put on about 2 years ago. Besides the routine normal oil change is there anything else I should have done to the truck of this vintage? Thanks

Just make sure all the fluids are up to snuff, especially trans, and coolant. But, if it runs/drives nice, you should be golden.

Check out the plenum thread stickied at the top of this forum though......

Like HeyYou said, just check all your fluid levels, especially your coolant system, also check hoses for cracks

I would at least check the fluids, and see what they look like. If you don't like 'em, change 'em. If the trans hasn't been serviced in a while, sure wouldn't hurt do a fluid/filter change on that as well.

+1 on that one. The time I needed my spare, I lowered it to find out it had 10 psi of air in it. It had never even been dropped before. Not a good day! I used that "lesson learned" when I took my parents pop up camper out a few weekends ago. I checked/ filled the camper tire pressure, and when I checked the spare trailer tire, the guage said 5-6psi, LOL. Woulda been deja-vu on the side of the highway for me, if required. Luckily it wasn't.

But yeah, like said, check your fluids, tire pressures. I always keep an extra quart of oil, and a gallon of coolant behind the seat of my truck.

Seafoam in the brake booster and gas; good TB cleaning. Do it the night before, let her sit and the long trip will be your hell ride to ride her of crud.

Great suggestions, thanks. 2 Marks, not sure if I understand about the addition of Sea foam. For the gas are you referring to Injector Cleaner? As for Brake Booster, are you adding to the Brake Master Cylinder reservoir?
