I like Pioneer. Check amazon.com, I got a sweet deal on a 200W Pioneer a couple of year's ago...
Kenwood make's some good stuff too, I think some of the Sony unit's are ok too. Stay away from the Wal-Mart private crap, Durabrand, crap like that...

I bought a pioneer a couple years back. I like the tuners in the pioneers and have been buying pioneer decks since the 80's. The problem with the new deck that I find is the Ipod style controls. Everything is menu driven using this one control ****. It pushes in,trurns left or right, pushes up/down/left/right. Without the manual it took me 15 minutes to find and adjust the bass control! You think I could remember how I found it the next time? Ha!
I almost ripped the damned thing out of my dash and threw it out the window in frustration. I am leery about installing this unit into my dodge.

Installing something that requires an engineering degree, just to change the tone.... is REALLY not a good plan in a 3 ton chunk of metal that you can throw down the road at 70 plus miles per hour.... talk about distracted driving......
James there are other better laid out stereos on the market with great tuners.....My suggestion is dont buy a pioneer...
and the stock radios do fail a lot... one of the big issues is volume control going nuts and acting up...

The pioneer I had was great, easy button control, different button's for various function's instead of 1 button for 10 different things, and a remote. Just my

I have a JVC deck in mine right now (yeah I went the way of the cheapo lol, 120 bucks with HD Radio and a bunch of extras I'm not too concerned with right now), and it sounds pretty good, just gotta grab an amp and new speakers as I don't like what's in it now. But yeah, in my 99, it was as simple as pulling the center bezel and removing the two screws holding the unit in place. +1 on the aftermarket unit though
Stick with AM. You can listen to Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, learn spanish. I have an aftermarket radio in my trk., don't know offhand what it is. Very rarely turn it on. Too busy listening for sounds that are gonna cost me money in the near future.
