Default 99 Ram 4x4 Quad Pulling with overdrive on

Ok, so if I install a temp gauge, do you guys see problems with me from time to time turning the OD back on. Say I pull at 60 - 65 level ground and watch the temp gauge. If it does not move much would I be safe to pull the 3840 pound boat with the OD on from time to time? Is it temp that destroys the OD and tranny, or too much pulling on the OD that tears up the tranny?

Thanks

The O/D unit itself is not the best..... towing that kind of weight in O/D, unless your trans is built to handle it, will more than likely kill it in short order.

I just talked with the tranny mechanic and he said pull nothing over 1200-1500 pounds with the OD on. So that answers that question.

Now that you have the gauge installed. You'll notice that even driving around town with OD on(with no towing) creates more heat and the tranny will run hotter than if you turn OD off, unless you are on the highway.

Damn, two threads.
